Horticulture trainees will learn how to plan, plant and maintain year round planting schemes in keeping with many different station and other heritage railway locations, and how to manage a team of volunteer gardeners.

Horticulture trainees will be based in Minffordd Yard and will form part of the Infrastructure Department team. We are in the process of erecting a new ‘Horticulture Centre’ based in Minffordd yard with a greenhouse, gardening store and other useful facilities. There are also a multitude of other gardening stores you will have access to across the 40 miles of railway. The horticulture team currently maintain the gardens and floral displays located at 11 of our main station sites. The department is becoming increasingly self-sufficient with a view to cultivating and over wintering our own plants in house.

All training will be in house with external support and assessment provided by Coleg Cambria, Wrexham. Horticulture trainees will be expected to complete a City and Guilds in Work Place Horticulture Level 2 Certificate/Diploma.
